Discarded History (Mixed Media Sculpture)
This mixed-media sculpture, is composed of discarded books that I purchased from an annual sale at my University’s library. The books I used to create this piece, include texts that provide detailed accounts of America’s history and illustrated elements from Adventures of America 1857-1900. I used pages from these books- to paint a nuanced scene of America’s ancestral narrative and to honor all those who sacrificed their lives and their freedoms to constitute the country. The purpose of this sculpture, is to inspire equity, holistic perspective and narrative preservation- while honoring the collective stories, sacrifices, and accounts of those who came before in the face of erasure.

"THE STORY MY CANDLE WILL TELL" (2015) Film
Logline: An introspective tale circling the writings of a poet- as she reflects upon her journey, and the fragile gift that is life.
“The Story My Candle Will Tell” is an original short film, that I wrote, directed, and, narrated. This film began as a poem and as an even shorter conceptual film exercise, in the fall of 2013.
"Candle" was later re-shot and completed in the spring of 2014, with classmates from my university’s Film program. It then went on to be featured in a few gallery exhibitions around the Downtown Arts District of San Pedro, CA.
In the Summer of 2015, “Candle” went on to be one of six shorts selected for a Summer Film Music Intensive. Through this Intensive program, I got to collaborate with professional film composers and musicians, for an original score at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA. As part of the Summer Intensive culmination, “The Story My Candle Will Tell” was screened at a premiere held at the Musician’s Institute.
